For the second time this year, New York State health authorities have
shut down a prominent cancer doctor. In November, the state revoked the
license of Emanuel Revici, MD.... They charged him with inadequate examinations
and record keeping. As in the case of Dr. Robert Atkins [C.C. #17], no
patient filed a complaint; it originated among officials.
Dr. Revici is now 96 years old but is still practicing medicine. Old
age is not a crime, however, and orthodox physicians are generally left
free to practice in their later years. The cancer establishment has been
out to get Revici for decades. He is a 'heretic,' who uses medicines of
his own invention and claims some astonishing results. Other doctors (including
radiologist Seymour Brenner, MD) feel there is an urgent need for clinical
testing.
Since February, I have participated in several meetings with Office
of Alternative Medicine (OAM) officials and Dr. Revici, trying to set
up just such a fair evaluation.
Little has happened. Now, an official evaluation becomes next-to impossible,
since the aged doctor must occupy his days in a desperate struggle to
restore his medical license. The famous U.S. Appeals Court case of Schneider
v. Revici (1987) affirmed a cancer patient¼s right to get not just Revici¼s
treatment, but any alternative method. But state authorities think they
know better and have trampled on our hard-won constitutional and human
rights. This is a tragedy for cancer patients and must not go unanswered....
