THE SPRING 1998 CHRONICLES

(see list of articles below)

EDITORIAL NOTE: This issue of The Cancer Chronicles is shorter than most for one simple reason: overwork. Not only do I need to keep The Moss Reports up to date, but I am finishing up my forthcoming book, Herbs Against Cancer. This will arrive in bookstores starting on August 15, 1998, and so you can imagine the crunch.

The book is coming along very well. It turned out that I had far more material than could possibly be accomodated in this one volume. Therefore, I have broken it up into two discreet parts. The first will be subtitled "History and Controversy." It will tell the story of how herbs have been used against cancer since antiquity. There will be discussions of zoopharmacognosy, of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman practices, of Hildegard of Bingen, the early modern period, the use of deadly nightshade and poison hemlock, etc. We shall discuss the German use of mistletoe and the English Rees Evans controversy. Most of the book will deal with American issues. The Hoxsey and Essiac formulas are thoroughly explored. So are the roots of chemotherapy in herbs and herbal preparations, and what that means for the scientific validity of herbalism.

I hope to start posting sections of the book to this Web site soon. Look for it. The second, companion volume will be a compendium of monographs on approximately 100 herbs that have been used, historically, to treat cancer. This will be appearing about this time next year. We shall keep you informed.

Here are some articles for the Spring 1998 Chronicles. We shall be adding to this list over the next few months, so please check back often:
